Barbara Amos

The art works of Barbara Amos begins with response to a familiar scene. She is captivated by fading light and ambiguous passages, mystery and possibility.  The work moves back and forth between the recognizable and unfamiliar until there is a satisfying resonance between the two polarities.  At times a transitional light prevails. Sometimes the work is blurred, fragmented and rearranged.

Barbara has created a handmade camera lens. Where a traditional photograph selects and frames an image, this lens creates an ironic twist by fragmenting the scene, creating new patterns out of an older reality. A steel version of this lens is on a city street in Calgary.

In Canada her paintings have been shown in many public and commercial galleries from Vancouver to Montreal. The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, RBC Dominion Securities and Esso Resources are a few of the organizations that have added her work to their collections.
