Janet Assen

Calgary based artist Janet Assen has been an active painter for over 10 years. As a mature student, Janet graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 1993. Sustaining her studio practice and raising her children, Janet has been painting full time since leaving school. Her haunting figurative work, often marked by traditional henna tattoos, has become a trademark. The vibrant staining, evocative gestural sketching and large scale separate Janet from traditional painters.

The paintings of Janet Assen can be found in private and Corporate collections in Canada, United States, the Netherlands, and the UK. She is currently represented across Western Canada.
