Vern Simpson
Vern Simpson was born in Penticton, British Columbia, in the dry sage-brush country of the South Okanagan. After graduation- with a painting and graphics double major from the University of British Columbia- he toured Europe with a backpack and wood block chisels. Wintering in Ibiza, Spain, Vern created a successful series of prints that helped extend his tour to Scandinavia and then back to Brittan and Ireland.
Simpson’s successful career in the Arts has spanned several decades. Before he chose to paint full-time he taught graphic communications, directed and produced film and video, and worked as an art director for a number of independent films. He has had many successful exhibitions that have widened the appeal of his work both locally and internationally. One of his most well-known pieces is the Vancouver, BC landmark in Gastown, the Gassy Jack statue.
